How to Add, Remove and Edit Pages on Squarespace Tutorial
Ever felt like your website just doesn’t feel like you yet? Like it’s a little too polished, too generic, or just missing that personal spark? Good news – it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Welcome back to the Squarespace Academy 101 – this is Episode 2 of our 10-part video series designed to help you create a professional, beautiful, and functional website using Squarespace.
In this post, we’ll walk you through how to customise images and text on your Squarespace site so it feels like you. Whether you’re launching your first online space or giving your existing website a fresh look, this guide will help you confidently make it your own — one edit at a time.
So grab a cuppa, log into your dashboard, and let’s get to work.
Step 1: Log Into Your Squarespace Account ☁️
First things first: head to Squarespace.com, click “Login” in the top corner, and sign in using your preferred method. Whether you’re logging in with Google or email, it all leads you to your dashboard — your HQ for everything.
Once you’re in, click on the website thumbnail or image to enter the back end of your site. Think of this as stepping backstage before the curtain rises. This is where all your edits happen.
Step 2: Let’s Tweak That Homepage Image 🖼️
Say the current image on your homepage feels a bit too stiff or formal — maybe it’s a stock photo that’s not you at all. Let’s swap it out for something with more personality.
Here’s how:
Hover over the image and click it.
Click “Replace”.
You’ll now see two options:
Upload from file (if you haven’t uploaded anything yet)
Select from library (if you’ve uploaded assets already)
Choose Upload from file, browse through your image folder, and pick the one that feels like you. Once it uploads, ta-da! You’ll instantly see the vibe change.
Step 3: Adjust the Size and Position ✨
Not loving how the image sits on the page? Let’s fix that.
You can click and drag the corners of the image to resize it. Want it smaller and off to the side? Totally doable. Want to go back to the original size? Just drag it out again.
Squarespace gives you helpful little squares that show where your image can go — it’s kind of like building with LEGO, but way less stressful.
Step 4: Add an Extra Image (Because Why Not?)
Sometimes one image isn’t enough. Maybe you want to add a photo of yourself, a flat lay of your workspace, or just something that adds more life to your layout.
To add a new image block:
Click outside of any currently selected blocks (this is important!).
On the left-hand menu, click “Add Block”.
From the block options, select “Image”.
A white square will appear — this is your placeholder.
Drag that square to wherever you want your image to live.
Once it’s in position, go up to the top toolbar, click “Edit”, and then add image. Upload your file, choose your favourite, and wait a sec while it loads in.
Step 5: Make It Fit Just Right 🧩
Sometimes, the image you’ve chosen isn’t sitting quite right — maybe it’s being cropped awkwardly or it just doesn’t fill the space.
Here’s the fix:
Click the image.
Go to Design settings.
Choose between Fit or Fill.
Fit keeps the full image within the box.
Fill expands the image to cover the space fully.
If the image looks better now but still not perfect, head over to the Content tab. You’ll see a little white circle — that’s your image’s focal point. Move it around until the most important part of the photo is front and centre. 👌
You can also resize the image again using the corners or delete it completely if you change your mind (no judgment here!).
Step 6: Save Your Work (Don’t Skip This!) 💾
When everything looks right, click “Save” on the left-hand side of your page. A good rule of thumb? Save as you go.
Important note: anything you save on the back end will automatically publish to the front end — this means your visitors will instantly see those changes. So double-check everything before hitting that button!
Step 7: Edit Your Text Like a Pro ✍️
Okay, now let’s talk words. If your homepage has placeholder text like “Exclusive Services” and you’re cringing every time you see it — let’s change that!
Here’s what to do:
Hover over the text you want to change and click it.
Click the Edit button from the toolbar that pops up.
Type in your own words — make it warm, inviting, and you.
For example, change:
Exclusive Services
to
Work With Us
or
Here’s How We Can Help
You can also change the text colour if the default one isn’t vibing with your brand. Just click on the colour picker and select from your theme’s palette — easy.
